Description and Requirements

Job Description:    

Lenovo is seeking a Lead Senior Counsel, for its Legal Center of Excellence (“Legal COE”) Leading the North America COE team, reporting directly to the Legal COE Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight to a team of capable attorneys/paralegals. The team’s main responsibility is to provide contract legal support in business-critical transactional processes, which include drafting, negotiation, management and execution of its commercial agreements. The Lead Senior Counsel, Legal is also expected to play an integral role in executing a global strategy for the transformation of Lenovo’s contracting capabilities across different jurisdictions, Business Units and functional areas.

You will be expected to work as the Legal COE point of contact within the region for contracts involving primarily sales and marketing, but that may also include supply chain (e.g., direct and indirect procurement). Communicating effectively about legal and business matters, providing good risk/benefit analysis and guidance to internal stakeholders are key skills to be leveraged when supporting complex agreements including: Sales and Services Agreements (including DaaS, SaaS and others), Bids and RFPs, Purchase, subcontracting, licensing, reseller and channel agreements, NDAs, and SOWs. Experience with Governmental Contracting (Locals, State, Federal) is mandatory.

You are expected to play a key role in the development and deployment of contract management capabilities for Lenovo, including supporting the adoption of a new Contract Lifecycle Management technology solution and the applicable workflows and key performance indicators. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining multiple contract templates, playbooks, document retention policies, as well as training and contributing with the development of self-help solutions to end-users.  The person will collaborate with internal and outside counsel, technology experts, marketing and sales leads, product developers as well as with Lenovo’s customers and suppliers as needed. 

Job Requirements

  • Contract Drafting and Negotiation
    • J.D. from an accredited law school
    • 8+ years of legal experience (may be concurrent with leading a team) in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of agreements, particularly within the technology industry, including some familiarity with Governmental procurement
    • Experience reviewing and analyzing businesses while developing and communicating creative solutions and mitigation strategies for key negotiation points
  • Team Management
    • 3+ years of experience leading and managing a team
    • Implementing and following standard operating procedures for the key processes driven by the area
    • Ability to assign and oversee work streams through analysis of a team’s skill and experience
    • Strong coaching skills
    • Experience managing people in remote locations
Preferred Requirements:
  • Client Relationship Development/Management
    • Proven track record in building strong, trust-based relationships with diverse client groups
    • Ability to interface with customers and members of large organizations
    • Comfort around running Steering Groups and reporting on performance to clients
    • Demonstrate an ability to thrive in a large, global company while coordinating the efforts of a large cross-functional group of internal stakeholders
       
  • Drive for Continuous Improvement
    • Quick to identify and resolve issues in collaboration with client and team members
    • Proficiency in utilizing contract management technology for client/company reporting, workflow management, and team performance metrics
    • Possesses an appetite for innovation, driving efficiencies by developing playbooks, templates, etc.
    • Experience in change management as a result of implementation of company-wide policies and procedures
    • Strong communication and presentation skills will be necessary to explain complex matters to business partners in a manner that is readily understandable in order to ensure well-informed business decisions

    • Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of an organization to provide excellent client service
